I’m still slightly shellshocked that I get to announce this: Pumped BMX is coming to pretty much all of the consoles this Summer! It’s heading to PS3 / PS4 / PS Vita / Xbox One / Wii U / Steam. Absolutely insane.
Another pipe update! I’ve not been writing blog posts about them (so far) but I have been uploading builds and sharing the link on my . Anyhow, here’s the third update:
Changes:
- I’ve changed how flips work so that a quick tap equals a slow flip, and you can hold it to speed up (much like spins in Pumped 2).
- I’ve also changed the flip buttons to Up/Down arrows, which is a bit confusing, I’m not sure how much I like it, but I haven’t come up with a better idea yet.
- I’ve changed the trick buttons to the ‘WSAD’ keys, so you can do up+right etc. for more tricks. I’ve also set up ‘Shift’ to toggle T1/T2, so you can do all the tricks you can do in Pumped 2!
- The bike should land a bit smoother back into the ramp.
Errr I think that’s it for changes. Things I’d like to sort out next week:
- you have to be accurate with your button presses to do the diagonal tricks. I want to loosen up that system.
- You can trick on the ground at the moment. I’ll fix that.
- You can’t crash. I’ll probably sort that out too.
What else would you like to see?
I’ve had an idea, and it involves a halfpipe! But first an update: after Pumped 2 came out I took some time off to 1. recover, 2. relax, and 3. prototype. I’m back to ‘real’ work now, which was originally going to be some extra level packs for Pumped 2. It’s not anymore: after some prototyping and brainstorming I realised that Pumped 2 ain’t perfect (shocker!), and there are a number of features I’d like to add that won’t work as simple updates.
Long story short, I’m working on Pumped 3. This isn’t some big announcement, I’ve only just started working on it really, but it definitely shouldn’t take as long as the gap between Pumped 1 & 2.
Essentially: no Pumped 2 updates cos I’d rather make Pumped 3. I realise that might be a bit of a let down, but try and look at it this way: by not making extra P2 levels I can get P3 done a lot quicker. Just to be clear, P3 is very early on, so don’t expect screenshots etc. for quite a while.
However, I do want to keep chatting shit on the internet, which is why I’ve come up with the new project idea!
Super stoked that Pumped BMX 2 is out today for iPhone and iPad! Check the trailer below, and download it from the App Store!
Yo. It’s been awhile.
I’ve not been twiddling my thumbs though, I’ve been hard at work on finishing Pumped 2! So, where am I at?
I’ll tick off what I’ve done from the May update:
Finalise level designs
Finalise level challenges
Decorate levels with trees/cactii/rocks etc.
Create final obstacle (e.g. manual pad) models and textures
Create tutorials
Create GameCenter challenges
Hook up GameCenter leaderboards
I’m currently working on fixing some minor gameplay issues which will probably be finished by the end of tomorrow.
I’ve also (just about) finished a sweet recording feature so you can save runs to your iphone/ipad to edit, stick on instagram, whatever you want! There’s a few bugs to work out with that, but it should work great (fingers crossed).
So the game is *almost* there! If tomorrow goes to plan I’ll be testing and bug fixing from next week, and depending on how that goes it really shouldn’t be much longer til it’s out there and in your hands. Fingers crossed (again).
Cheers for being patient, not long now!
